Match Properties in RISA-3D
RISA-3D now includes the ability to "match properties" between members. For more information about this feature, check out the video below:
Welcome to a high-level walkthrough of dynamic analysis in RISA-3D! This guide introduces essential aspects of modeling dynamics, focusing on natural frequencies, mode shapes, and the impact of dynamic behavior on structural integrity. The Dynamics Scenario Imagine we’re tasked with evaluating the stability of a cantilevered pedestrian bridge that spans over a city street. The bridge is connected to a building on one side and features decorative panels and a lightweight canopy. The concern? Wind gusts and foot traffic could cause the bridge to vibrate. Our goal is to understand its dynamic properties—natural frequencies and mode shapes—and assess whether it can handle these dynamic forces without compromising structural stability. We start by setting up dynamic mass for each load case: Canopy Load: Applied uniformly along the length of the bridge to account for wind effects. Pedestrian Load: Simulated at intervals along the span to reflect walking traffic. Decorative Panels: Modeled with specific weights on each side. Once mass and stiffness are set, RISA-3D enables us to simulate how the structure behaves dynamically, revealing which parts might be sensitive to specific frequencies or forces. Running the Eigensolution Analysis In RISA-3D, we use an eigensolution to identify: Natural Frequencies (intrinsic vibration rates…

ADAPT-Builder v21.0.1 includes the option to import reactions from a RISA-3D model. The program will import the superstructure reactions and loading as point and line loads. The B3D Import Wizard allows you to choose which load cases to import and gives you the ability to map the loads to existing...
RISA-3D is expanding its industry leading support for the analysis and design of various materials with the implementation of Seismic Design of Masonry Wall Panels according to the provisions of TMS 402-16 (as well as ACI 530-13). When creating a model in RISA-3D, users now have the ability to...
The CSA A23.3-14 Concrete Design Code has been implemented into RISA-3D v20 and RISAFloor v16 for concrete wall panels. These walls can be designated and designed as either gravity only or lateral elements in RISAFloor when designing a complete building utilizing concrete walls. Prior to this...
RISA-3D Version 20 includes enhanced rotation tools which allow the user to better control their view of the structure. Users can now utilize click to rotate buttons about each axis (X, Y and Z) as well as define the rotation angle of each click/increment. For more information about these enhanced...
RISA-3D is a robust tool for the analysis and design of a variety of different structures. Whether users are creating simple or incredibly complex models, the need to be able to easily review precise results and create corresponding screenshots is paramount. As a result, RISA-3D Version 20 now...
RISA-3D continues to be at the cutting-edge of finite elements analysis software with the release of the Geometric Nonlinear Stiffness method for use during P-Delta analysis. Traditionally, RISA-3D considered P-Delta effects using a Standard Nodal Shear methodology which applies pseudo shear loads...
Engineers choose RISA-3D and RISAFloor for the design of all types of steel structures. As a result, we are constantly improving the software and its acceptance of various types of design elements and materials. The latest improvement includes back-to-back hot rolled steel channels which are now...
