Added Double Click Dialog for Members

RISAFloor now has the ability to double-click a member to open the Member Information dialog. This feature has been in RISA-3D but now it is available in RISAFloor. Double click any member in your model and the Member dialog box opens. It has three tabs: General, Properties and Design.

All the same information is in the Members spreadsheet but now you can quickly access the member properties for a single member using the double-click feature.

Analysis Offsets now Available

RISA-3D v15 includes "analysis offsets" which moves the centroid of the member for analysis allowing for flexibility in how members are designed. Let's use a WT brace to demonstrate how this feature can be utilized. When you model a WT brace it exists at the member centroid, which means that no bending ends up in the brace due to the fact that the brace is actually eccentric to the braced frame. Recently, we've added a feature called “Analysis Offset” which moves the centroid of the member for analysis. In the example below the flange of the WT is bolted to a gusset that is ¾” thick, so we would want the centroid to be moved to the face of the flange, plus half the gusset thickness (3/8”): With this offset applied, when the model is solved you’ll note that the brace bows out of plane, indicating that it does have bending. What is P-Delta Analysis?

When a model is loaded, it deflects. The deflections in the members of the model may induce secondary moments due to the fact that the ends of the member may no longer be vertical in the deflected position. These secondary effects for members can be accurately approximated through the use of P-Delta analysis. This type of analysis is called “P-Delta” because the magnitude of the secondary moment is equal to “P”, the axial force in the member, times “Delta”, the distance one end of the member is offset from the other end. Step 1: The model is loaded with the Applied loads (P shown above) Step 2: The model deflects Δ, and the secondary shear force (V) is calculated for every member; Step 3: The model is re-solved (internally) with the secondary shear forces applied (V shown above). Step 4: The displacements for this new solution are compared to those obtained from the previous solution. If they fall within the convergence tolerance, the solution has converged. If not, return to Step 2 and repeat. The convergence tolerance is found in the Model Settings and is set by default to 05%…
