HSS Tube Moment Connections per AISC 360 now Available

Wide Flange Beam to HSS Tube Column Moment Connections can now be designed in RISAConnection version 9. HSS tubes may be selected as the supporting column member on either of the two moment connections:

Column/Beam Direct Weld Moment Connection
Column/Beam Flange Plates Moment Connection

You may select rectangular or square tubes and all design codes are supported (AISC 13th, 14th, CSA S16-09, and CSA S16-14) for the design of these connections.

Design for these connections is presented in detailed limit state checks just like all other RISAConnection results. Each limit state can be expanded to see the details of the check.

Vertical Slab and Beam Offsets

In RISAFoundation, you can add a vertical offset for slabs or beams. Traditionally, RISA uses centerline analysis which aligns all elements at their centerline. This is a common structural analysis assumption as the loads will get transferred to the centerline even if there is difference in the sizes. In certain circumstances, it becomes necessary to model the offset because the elements are very different sizes and you need to address the eccentricity. HSS Tube Moment Connections per CSA S16 now Available

Wide Flange beam to HSS Tube column moment connections can now be designed in RISAConnection version 9 with both the US and Canadian design standards. HSS tubes may be selected as the supporting column member on either of the two moment connections: Column/Beam Direct Weld Moment Connection Column/Beam Flange Plates Moment Connection When either of the above connections are designed per the Canadian design codes (CSA S16-09 or CSA S16-14), the HSS limit state checks are done per the appropriate equation in the CIDECT Design Guide 3, Table 7.1. These limit states are all applicable only within a certain range, so RISAConnection checks the applicable ratios in the HSS Limitations check. Simpson Strong-Tie®Yield-Link® Moment Connection Available in RISA-3D

The release of RISA-3D Version 19 includes the introduction of Yield-Link® Moment Connections, developed in conjunction with Simpson Strong-Tie®. The Yield-Link® moment connections are precision-made to meet the tough demands of structural steel construction. From building owners to engineers, to contractors and fabricators, the Yield-Link’s state-of-the-art fuse technology and design tools save everyone time and money — while providing a connection that keeps structural steel buildings strong and safe. The Yield-Link® moment connections are available in three stem thicknesses, 1/2", 3/4" and 1" and come packed in a kit with the necessary accessories including the buckling restraint plates and spacers. Additionally, the connections are completely bolted at the jobsite and all field bolting is approved as snug-tight with the exception of the Yield-Link-to-beam flanges and sloped-beam application. Within RISA-3D these connections can be specified as Member End Releases for steel moment frames.
