Defining Connections: Column to Beam Connections

Member Configuration

The connection rule must be applied at the end of the beam (not the column).

Available Shear Connection Types

The following Column Shear Connections are currently supported in RISAConnection:

  • Single Clip Angle Shear Connection

  • Double Clip Angle Shear Connection

  • Shear Tab Shear Connection

  • End Plate Shear Connection

  • Double Clip Angle (Double Sided) Shear Connection

Available Moment Connection Types

The following Column Moment Connections are currently supported in RISAConnection:

  • Flange Plate Moment Connection

  • Direct Weld Moment Connection

  • Extended End Plate Moment Connection

  • Partially Extended End Plate Moment Connection

  • Flush End Plate Moment Connection

Specific Connection Requirements

  • Columns may be Wide Flanges, HSS tubes or HSS pipes (shear tab only)

  • Beams for shear connections may be Wide Flanges, Tapered Wide Flanges or Channels (except for end plate shear)

  • Beams for moment connections must be Wide Flanges.

  • Double-sided connections available for clip angle shear connections into the Wide Flange column web. Beams on either side of the web must be within 3" (parallel) to be considered as double-sided.

  • Skewed shear tab connection available for Wide Flange or HSS tube column (maximum beam skew angle is 45 degrees)

  • Flange Plate Column Cap Plate Moment Connection only available in RISAConnection
