Jeff Puerner is a Senior Software Engineer and Architect at RISA, with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Over his 30-year career, Jeff has garnered extensive experience in structural engineering software, having worked for both small and large companies. Prior to joining RISA, he spent several years at ADAPT, developing concrete design software and implementing a Finite Element Method (FEM) design engine for wood and steel truss software in the housing market. His wealth of domain knowledge makes him a pivotal figure in RISA’s development team.
One of the most exciting aspects of Jeff’s role at RISA is leading a project to modernize the company’s structural engineering analysis code. This initiative requires a combination of old and new software technologies and a deep understanding of structural engineering principles. Jeff thrives on challenges and is driven by a passion for improving software, ensuring it is better than when he first encountered it. His productivity is fueled by working in a quiet environment, accompanied by the Calm Radio app and his favorite cold-brew herbal iced tea.
Outside of work, Jeff is an avid photographer, a passion he has nurtured since childhood. He enjoys both digital and wet-plate photography, valuing traditional techniques and minimal editing. This meticulous and creative hobby mirrors his professional approach. To relax, Jeff enjoys watching shows like “The Magicians” on Netflix, appreciating a variety of genres for a bit of mindless fun after a long day. Jeff's blend of professional expertise and creative pursuits make him a dynamic and invaluable member of the RISA team.
