What's your favorite part of being an engineer?

For me, it's getting to understand the "why" behind a problem or a situation. That curiosity shows up in two ways: either by building something from scratch and figuring out how all the pieces need to come together, or taking an existing design and reverse-engineering it to see how someone else solved the same puzzle. Both are incredible ways to learn. One through creation and the other through observation.

What really excites me is seeing that curiosity play out at scale. Large buildings and complex structures are where our industry is constantly reinventing the calculations, testing the limits of materials and codes, and pushing structural engineering forward. Getting to be part of that evolution is what keeps me hooked.

Why do you love working at RISA?

The people. That includes both our customers and the fellow employees I get to work alongside every day. The work I do here has a direct impact on structural engineers around the world. Whether it's on the support side helping someone troubleshoot a tricky model or on the development side building tools that make their designs possible.

Working at RISA I get a front-row seat to some genuinely amazing, creative engineers who push the boundaries of what's structurally possible. This includes dreaming up new and exciting structures that shape the modern world. Being able to support that kind of innovation, even from behind the scenes, is what makes this job so rewarding.

What's your favorite part of being an engineer?

 I like that even the most complicated puzzles we face as structural engineers still rely on sound fundamentals. And learning about engineering has given me an appreciation for the structures and systems in our day-to-day lives that go unnoticed. Structural engineers certainly shouldn't make the news, but we impact people's lives in so many ways every day. I'm a problem solver, and at its core, engineering is problem solving in a way that yields real-world results. 

Why do you love working at RISA?

 I was in design for nearly a decade and used RISA-3D from day one. I love that I get to help other engineers find solutions utilizing a product that I looked forward to using every day. I get to combine problem solving, teaching, and technical knowledge into a role that helps other engineers. The entire team behind the RISA name shares the passion for the products. It's great to work at a place where I'm using my engineering know-how, promoting a tool I believe in, and I'm backed by a great team.

I love problem solving and the satisfaction of working through complex challenges. It's especially rewarding to help others learn how to approach and solve those problems themselves.

Why do you love working at RISA?

My favorite part about working at RISA is the people. I get to collaborate with incredibly talented coworkers and learn something new every day, and being on the Technical Support team means I’m solving puzzles all day, which makes the work especially fun.

What's your favorite part of being an engineer?

There are a few things I really like about being an engineer. One of them is being constantly called out by friends and relatives whenever an engineering or physics related topic comes up in conversation, lol. On a more serious note, I really enjoy learning how different structures behave and the forever learning that comes with being an engineer, knowing that there is always something more to discover.

Why do you love working at RISA?

I love the opportunity to help and teach other engineers. Whether helping a brand new user understand the basics of modeling in the program or doing a deep dive in a particular feature to help a user feel more confident in their designs, seeing engineers that use our software gain a better understanding of it is very rewarding.
